Man charged after officers find 11.4 grams of meth in motel room

A man was charged with multiple felony drug crimes after Billings police officers discovered drug distribution supplies in his motel room.

Jacob Lawrence Burns, 34, appeared Friday in front of Justice of the Peace Pedro Hernandez and was charged with felony criminal possession with intent to distribute and misdemeanor charges of possession of dangerous drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Burns is being held in lieu of a $2,500 bond and, should he post that, he must wear a drug detection patch as a condition of his release order.

According to court documents, officers heard two voices from inside a room at the Motel 6 North on Midland Road.

Officers knocked and Burns was taken out of the room and detained. The officers searched Burns’ room and his car and found marijuana, baggies used for drug distribution, a digital scale, syringes, spoons and 11.4 grams of a white crystalline substance that tested positive for methamphetamine.

The officers also found a drug ledger and a cellphone with text messages on it that suggested Burns was dealing drugs.

Burns has two co-defendants, who were also in the motel room at the time, Kandie Lynn Madsen, 31, and Ramon Robert Martinez, 26.
